- Last August I spent a couple of weeks in Tuscany, renting a home in Montepulciano. One evening one of those sudden summer storms surprised me and I took out the microphone to record some sounds: I was fascinated by how all the usual city sounds were completely overwhelmed by rain
and thunder. Only one sound made his way through the wall of noise: the bell of the bell tower, ticking the hours. This sound reminded me of a similar one I heard in 1997 as a child: a small town bell warning people of an incoming storm, a sound that can be both fearful and full of hope.

The full field recording can be heard through the piece with only a minimal EQ applied. Two fragments are extracted and treated differently, to exalt some key points in the narrative: one chain uses a custom PD Patch to generate different textures then filtered through a spectral gate and enhanced with some reverb; the other chain process uses a small modular synth, passed through a different reverb.
