- Milicz Ponds are fish ponds that cover 77 square kilometers in total and were set up by the Order of Cistercians in XIII century. In 1963 a Nature Reserve Milicz Ponds was established, and it is now among the most valuable ornithological spots in Europe. It is also a part of the Living Lakes network program.
Over 250 species of birds are observed here with more than 150 having breeding grounds in this location.
This particular spot was close to Gray Heron nesting spot and they were loud throughout the night and right before dawn. This is when the recording was made. There is a number of species heard throughout this recording, mainly Gray Heron (Ardea cinerea), Common Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus), Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus), Eurasian Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), Graylag Goose (Anser anser).
The recording was made between 04:42 and 04:59 on 05 May 2018 (with sunrise at 05:16 on that day).
