Myalo - Madiis

- Madiis is the oldest known name of the town that also gave the name to the river (1225). Even though most of its course is still natural, the last kilometers were domesticated, due to the heavy water capacity it can carry during the rain season, which can cause great damage flooding the city, which funnily is built on past alluvial deposits.

The main idea was to start in the middle of the river (March-April is normally quite dry so you get this sort of stony beach) using as main element the low-level water touching the river bed. From there on I proceeded by recording stones and sand, very interesting elements as they’re changing all the time due to annual floodings, morphing constantly the landscape and forming the ever-expanding delta. The final layer is cut from the exterior side of the river, the embankment, where you can find a great variety of birds (...and tourists).
